The aim of being an Associate Member is communion with the SCMM Sisters, in accordance with the spirit and purpose of the Congregation. This means following Jesus Christ as the Gospel shows us, dedicating oneself in merciful love in the service of the poor, oppressed and needy.
Witness and missionary spirit are ways of revealing to the world God's merciful love that is proclaimed through the Gospel, which provokes us to direct our gaze and care towards the people most in need of attention, discriminated and excluded such as vulnerable children and adolescents, young people who have been denied a future, the lonely sick, the elderly, men and women who are searching for a meaning to life and the cry of the environment that demands care.
Below are some specific rules for Associates that may vary according to the cultural reality of each country.
Being an Associate Member means having a special and formal link with the Congregation. The Associate Member must be baptized and a member of the Roman Catholic Church, as established by Canon Law. It is also important to be an active member of your parish.
Canon Law also states that an Associate Member must be linked to a religious community and cannot be part of different religious families at the same time, since each one has its own spiritual tradition and charism. Our charism is mercy towards the poor and excluded.
A person wishing to become an Associate Member must have at least three years' experience as a member of the Movement of Mercy, with a commitment duly made to the respective Movement.
The Associate Member is welcomed into the association at a celebration in which the future Associate Member asks the General Superior or her representative to be accepted as an Associate Member of the Congregation and takes the oath of fidelity, receiving in return the Congregation's pledge of loyalty.
Acceptance must be signed by the Associate Member and the Congregation.
Associate Members are members of the Congregation and share the charism of its mission.
Associate Members participate in the meetings and the annual spiritual retreat of the Movement of Mercy.
The Congregation has no financial obligations towards Associate Members with regard to any aspect of their life. Associate Members do not take vows, which means that they are financially independent. Their assets remain their property, and they are not financed or supported by the Congregation.
