Festive Gathering in the Parish of Zonhoven
All the sisters were invited, as was the General Council. The solemn Eucharist began at 10:30 a.m. The Bishop of Hasselt, Monseigneur Patrick Hoogmartens, welcomed the sisters and presided over the festive celebration. During his homily, the bishop thanked the sisters for all the work they had done in the past in education, elderly care, and pastoral ministry. And the sisters remain active to this day. Thanks in part to them, the parish now has a new parish center, “Casa Acutis,” where parishioners, young and old, can come together.
After the Eucharistic celebration, everyone was invited to the blessing of the parish hall. The General Council had brought flowers for the Belgian sisters. There was also an orchid for Sr. Rosa as her birthday fell on October 18.
October 26 marks the official anniversary of the 175th year of the presence of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady, Mother of Mercy, in Zonhoven. The sisters will celebrate this day among themselves with the council of the Dutch Region and the General Council.
